The Bendigo Regional Institute of TAFE (BRIT) developed their Echuca campus to accommodate demand for further education in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, mechanical and welding trades. The resulting training centre is a prominent feature in its context, featuring a large workshop, classrooms, and relaxation spaces.
The double height workshop facilitates construction trade training, with classrooms overlooking the space.
Glazed curtain walls provide the workshop with ample natural lighting and radiant heaters provide warmth directly to occupants, without unnecessarily heating the entire space in cooler months.
A “Chill Out Space” includes a double-height dining/lounge area and kitchenette. An Aboriginal mural screen printed on ceramic tiles extends the full height of the space to resemble a possum pelt.
A shaded outdoor eating area was added to the existing restaurant, surrounded by new, low-maintenance landscaping.
