The directors of Brandrick Architects share how a unique blend of local insight from Echuca architects and metropolitan expertise has helped them achieve 28 years of design excellence throughout Central and Northern Victoria.
Step through the Brandrick story, and learn why we are respected by our industry, and loved by our clients.
When Gerard Brandrick relocated from England to start his own architecture firm in Echuca in 1989, he didn’t expect to be inundated with work as soon as he opened the doors. But Northern Victoria was booming, and with no other architects in town, Gerard soon had as many clients as he could handle and quickly learned how to run an office.
Squeezed into a shared office-space, Gerard was responsible for winning the work and then drawing it, while his wife Libby took care of administration. It was from this cramped office that Gerard began his first project as Brandrick Architects: redeveloping the local newspaper offices and front-of-house.
In 1992 they expanded into new offices, and in 1994 Gerard began working with designer Shannon Johns, who became co-director of the firm. As Brandrick’s reputation spread, they began to attract clients from further afield, including all areas of country Victoria and surrounds. Brandrick currently employs nine staff members, and last year completed over 80 projects across Central and Northern Victoria.
Longevity in design is important to Gerard and Shannon. For Brandrick, it’s not just about being on trend, but creating something that’s ahead of the curve. It takes a great deal of experience to design something that will stand the test of time.
Although a lot has changed for Brandrick Architects over the past 28 years, the firm’s core values of trust, honesty and family values have remained the same for the Echuca architects.
The local community is an extension of these values and Brandrick Architects are proud to be a regional company working throughout Central and Northern Victoria, giving back to their community wherever they can. Brandrick engages local builders across central Victoria and surrounds, sponsors local sporting clubs, charities and events and undertakes designs for kindergartens or local clubs on a pro-bono basis.
Brandrick directors Gerard and Shannon also recognise that whilst architects can now work remotely, Melbourne-based firms can never understand the needs of country Victorian families and businesses like Brandrick can. The Brandrick point of difference is longevity in regional Victoria – regionally based Echuca architects, servicing regional clients with both unique design, and understanding country conditions, constraints and budgets.
Brandrick Architects are able to achieve great results on commercial and residential projects because they see themselves as part of a team alongside the client and the builder, valuing the builder’s knowledge and practicality.
Brandrick still work hard to create a welcoming experience for their clients. Forget entering a daunting metropolitan architecture firm, and there are no suits and ties here. Instead, Brandrick are here to build a relationship – a warm and friendly smile, that personal touch: come in, have a coffee and de-stress. Brandrick work with you to solve your problem, or create your dream home.
